Joe Whitney Sculpture Installation
Greenspace has selected a sculpture from East Kessler Park's own Joe Whitney to be installed on the island at Kessler Parkway and Junior Dr. this summer.
Bio - Joe Whitney
I was born in Greece and adopted, as a young boy, by American parents. I graduated Sunset High School, joined the Marine Corp then attended college at UT Arlington where my major was architecture.
My talent for art was realized late in life and soon became a passion.
The main medium for my work is metal which I will occasionally paint in the bright, primary colors that I am so attracted to. I have produced and sold, various metal forms; flowers, roadrunners, abstract birds, people and objects d' art of various sizes. Working with my hands has always been an enjoyment and the metal sculptures have provided a soothing, satisfying outlet. My imagination knows no bounds and it is with pride and pleasure I watch my objects evolve into their final form.
Dallas Symphony in Kidd Springs Park
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is holding its annual series of parks concerts including a performance at Kidd Springs Park on Friday, June 8. This is a great, free event to mark the beginning of summertime in Oak Cliff.
Friday June 8th at 8:15pm with pre-concert activities at 7pm.
The Dallas Police Department (DPD) and OfferUp have created the city’s first Community MeetUp Spot. This area, located at 1999 E. Camp Wisdom Road, is designed to create a safe space for buyers and sellers from online and mobile marketplaces. Transactions can now be completed in a surveilled, well-lit, and monitored environment.
This initiative is meant to increase public awareness about the simple measures that can be taken to encourage safer in-person transactions. OfferUp partnered with the DPD to install the Community MeetUp Spots, signage and cameras.
In addition to these Community MeetUp Spots, OfferUp has provided additional free training to detectives from DPD. The training includes discussing best practices and available tools on how officers can work closely with OfferUp to detect and deter criminal activity stemming from online transactions.
